Keep in mind that traditional IP cameras are far cheaper in the long run, and can offer far better quality, as you can record locally with very little compression. and if you need cloud services, you can optionally find a company that will do remote security camersa recording and analysis.
For about 7 years now, face recognition has been available for traditional Ip cameras, as they are designed around future-proofing on the software side. The IP camera is a dumb unit that simply sends its video feed out to any back end hardware of your choice, thus you can use a wide range of security camera server apps in order to process the video. e.g., some will allow you to filter videos by object type, e.g., do you want the motion detection to trigger when people walk by, but not when cars and other vehicles go by, or do you want it to trigger on everything but sort them based on object type.
For my IP camera system, i use multiple motion zones for each camera (5 of them) It records when it detects people, animals, and vehicles. But if it detects a person next to the front door, the system beeps.
If someone walks by the front yard,it records but issues no notification, but if they walk then stop in front of the house, it issues a silent notification. And if someone enters into the yard, it issues a standard notification.
For some of the super advanced functions you will have to buy security camera software, but there are many free programs that will give you a wide range of advanced features, for example http://www.ispyconnect.com/features.aspx (object detection, face detection, vehicle and license plate detection, automatic PTZ tracking, and many other features).
The cloud based cameras always lock you into using only their service and restrict all local access to the video feed, you are forced to pay them to continues to use the product, and if they go our of business, your camera becomes a paperweight.
A traditional IP camera has 100% no reliance on any external network connectivity, but if you choose, you can get all of the cloud functionality, or you can run that functionality locally. (truly the best of both worlds).
+Razor2048 I live in one apartment and 9 story belou is parked my car in an open garage . I have no idea about HI-TECH …anything, but I would need a cam recorder on that dark garage and in my dark apartment to , so I can see the curious and intruder. Avoided subscriptions . So what you sugest me ? …and any links from where I can buy those things would be apreciable .Anticipate lot of thanks .
I have the Piper NV and although it isn’t perfect, it does do a pretty good job for capturing good video and sending alerts. Plus no subscription required 🙂
Which one do you think I need for protecting my room? I need a simple one without cables just for charging it, so wireless, what do you recomend me? I would like a price less than 50 dolars
…and now the “360Eye” available on Ebay for about $22 USD. Maybe not as consumer-friendly, but immensely more affordable. I’ll skip the big-box retailers selling at $130 plus. No thanks.
You can use your old smartphone as a security camera there are so many apps available and it won’t cost any new money. Smartphone can work even if the theifs manage to home internet and they can be placed where nobody can think of.
I’m so glad to have chosen Armorax Home Security as my provider. I was skeptical at first because they haven’t been around as long as companies like ADT and Livewatch but they sure wowed me with their service!

never consider a battery powered camera for real security mesures , just get a POE one, always active when needed

you did everything but actually provide a buying guide!
NeutralGenericUser
So how exactly is this a buyer’s guide? It’s more of an overview of the options than a buyer’s guide.
