This is an Extra Scene From 'Britain's Secret Surveillance‘
IMSI catchers are portable surveillance tools used for spying on thousands of phones in a targeted area, tracking their location and even intercepting calls, messages, and data. They are supposed to help identify serious criminals, but cannot operate without monitoring innocent people too.
UK police have IMSI catchers, but they refuse to tell the public how and when they are used. This has privacy campaigners worried. And, even if the state is using them sparingly, what if criminals also have access to the technology?
In this extra scene from 'Britain's Secret Surveillance,' VICE News visits Milipol, a homeland security fair in Paris, to reveal the latest hacking tools and state surveillance tech — and gets knifed in a stab vest.

“we sell a device which specifically hacks phones for personal information – but how you use it is up to you”
Nighthawk Viper
@Principal Lewis Too late for that to work.
Nighthawk Viper
@WalkinOSF You’re more apt to have a local law enforcement entity misuse that tech on you than the typical black hat. That’s the motherfuckin truth. Specially when we get to remote neural monitoring.
Seth Wolff
@bong breaker actually, no. He didn’t. He said with regret, “I have become death, the destroyer of worlds”.

Oh yes. JUST like a car.

@Principal Lewis what about all our countries who are out there buying them with our tax dollars?

Don’t be fooled, by having internet period, especially social media, most of your information is already likely catalogued somewhere. This isn’t anything new. With the age of new technologies comes the end of personal privacy.
XPECTED
@L 024 true
Arcaryon
As long as the government is ok it’s not an issue. The problem doesn’t come from privacy invasion, cause noone really cares about that as much as many would claim but in say China, this technology and more is used in the worst way possible. That is exactly why this needs to be a highly controlled field of state affairs and should always be under surveillance. A bit ironic bit you get the point.
Doc Martain
Truth.
EarthClad
@XPECTED kid is a public reply on a YouTube comment.
Indoors and Out
That’s why you use vpn’s, encryption, and a proxy network dude. Oh, and don’t post anything that’s a secret. If a government really wants to crack that, they can do it with a super computer in a few hours.

@Yuval its unlikely you’ll get killed by a car bomb you’re more likely to be killed by a police officer than a bombing.
Picolas Cage
you mean there is something wrong with the idea the best way to handle terrorist is to treat everyone like a terrorist
Mr Reverse
How to stop terror : drop a bag with big electrical devices in the middle of a crowd.
2:10
John V
That drop bag is useless it only intercepts 30 calls at one time. Imagine being in time square the amount of cell signals in just that block. You would need teams of agents monitoring many drop bags just in that vicinity for it to be effective.
Arcaryon
@John V That is true but it could be improved, I mean at the moment it’s 2 years old footage. Thats a lot of time for dedicated research.
John V
@Arcaryon that’s true but modern terrorists would speak near perfect English and use code phrases. The only scenario this device could be used is who ever using the interceptor would need to know everything about the target and they’re exact location and just monitor that signal and trace all incoming traffic. Mind you this is being presented at a public expo mostly for private security companies. This device being useful to them is little to none. Not to mention they would never get any kind of clearance by the FCC to use this device.
Urban Climber
@John V yeah in America Police Stations use These Things to Spy on their people
paul ulloa
John v in I’ll keep it short in my area we have constant aerial servailence, street cameras and cellphone trackers on almost every street corner not to mention gangstalker groups on maps plus coding your precise location. Our freedom and privacy is a cash cow.

Joke is still on you, and me too I guess. Even hiding underground doesn’t work, many ways to see through the ground. It makes me wonder how there is any opsec at all when we can literally see through the entire planet. LMAO

@Chubby Cheese Cakes The dude probably said more but vice probably edited it out and made it look like that’s all the guy said.

*Guy in a dinosaur suit casually walking around*
Yes, very interesting spy tech.
Dr. Medic
You wouldnt suspect a dinosaur of being a spy would you?
karmafox
That was actually the latest in dinosaur disguise tech. See, they had you fooled– you thought it was a human in a dinosaur suit. Other way around, my friend. The industry has come quite far.
Ryan Casey
I bet if you opened it you’d find Hannibal smoking a cigar saying “I love it when a plan comes together.”
Ted D
First thing they show you, is a device for hacking phone calls. It’s in a massive backpack, and it’s huge. With lights and cords at the opening… who would you be looking at? The guy with a huge backpack with an odd square shape, or the dinosaur guy… who has a huge backpack on underneath the suit?
IKnowGunFu
i guess nobody played hitman
Video Stop
Spy is all about low key, no one knowing etc.
*makes expo*
Muhammad
Exactly, now I wonder what IS spy tech nowadays then…
L 024
@Muhammad I think it’s all just advanced surveillance through computers. The ability to access, observe and control every system. Everyone has so much tech these days so controlling that is what gives power.

@5567 5555 So was the comment. Its little different to sell a car and a device that can get all your personal info by just wifi.
Brendan Patterson
There are many specific rules on how you can drive the car as well. Terrible analogy
L E
Tatu…no the comment was not a metaphor. The commentor took the comment too literally
Tangerine Tech
The car has nothing do to with it, its the last three words that actually matter “its your responsibility” meaning your responsible for using it ethically just like your responsible for not hitting people when driving a car. Are people really this stupid? Did you learn nothing in school?
