In this opinion piece, activist Aral Balkan argues that we're living in a world where data companies have become factory farms for human beings.

nah, not only search engines but also all networking applications/websites are doing this, tracking/profiling/farming in their own way.
not notness
More worried about the BBC to be honest. As long as capitalism doesnt start to non person people, because of what institutions like BBC say is right or wrong, we dont have a problem.

It’s good to see a video like this. I’ve often thought that over the last 5 to 10 years things have dramatically changed. It’s now known to other companies and governments where you are (through gps tracking and public transport electronic cards), what you like (through your online subscriptions, follows and likes), everything about your peronal information (dob, nationality, religion etc), your work (linkedIn), your finances (online banking) and god knows what else..
It’s no longer unreasonable to say ‘let’s not use the internet anymore’. Unfortunately it’s essentially impossible in this day and age to do anything without the internet..

“manipulating behaviour using intimate insights”? Really?
nadzir senna
yeah, really
Melle Jobs
that’s literally what gamification is.

“We need to fund them differently…” leaves out about 90+% of us. What’s abundantly clearly missing from videos like this one is giving us instructions something like “Here’s what you can do to help fund them differently”… (Thus, not just establishing a need but, rather, establishing steps which even the somewhat disenfranchised among us can take…)
Jude wilkinson
Taking individual steps is meaningless against the power of collective action to restrict these monopolistic tendencies. We have tamed capitalism before, but this wasn’t through giving consumers advice, but through regulation and the political process.
Tom Lever
@Jude wilkinson Hi Jude, when did we “tame capitalism” before?

Funny that a video like this has less than a thousand views…

I think Googles AI system works very hard to only allows people to see what they want people to see. Ghost Banning , Veiw count manipulation. I have three channels, craploads of videos, but I won’t monetize. So I have 0 comments for around six years now. And my view count goes down as much as it goes up lol. I don’t really care though. I don’t like most people anyway.

Can the BBC get Shoshana Zuboff on? All he’s really doing is reiterating her ideas except without the deep understanding that she has.

It will end with our extinction as a species, and swallowed by time, first geologic, and ultimately cosmic.

Surveillance capitalism is just a justification and stepping stone for the real agenda. We only know about it to get us acclimated to the idea. A hundred years ago there would have been riots in the streets. Now its just another incremental infringement on the way to a super AI that is billions of times smarter but not wiser, more righteous, or loving than humans can even comprehend. That is the end game, and the end of humanity or civilization as the most valuable farmed commodity on the planet over the last 10-12 thousand years. Better that you were never born than to be alive as this comes to be.
William Baker
You people don’t know that a dystopia is…..
Classy One
Dystopia is an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering.

We might need a think tank, this task is too difficult for the average human to deal with, most likely.

What’s going on with Onstar? Apple car play, Android car something or other?? People think they’re alone in their cars, but where they go, what they say, then shopping, etc. I’m most concerned about the auto spying.

Very well explained

Are there evolutionary factors regarding the founding sex and race of Western Civilization that make them uniquely susceptible to their own cultural self-sabotage and cultural suicide? Find out more in the videos entitled The Ecstasy of Carbon.

Succinctly explained. One can, of course, read Shoshana’s impeccable work but this is an effective 2 min warning.
